Tattoo
Published in Hardcover by St. Martin's Press (June, 1997)
Author: Anthony Britto
Average review score:

This is too good to be missed!
Without having any expectations, I bought this book and was pleasantly surprised that I finished it in two sittings. The most engaging part of the book was how the reader shadowed Gareth in his adventure. It was like being a passenger in the same car: experiencing what he did on a moment-to-moment basis. The reader was transported to different corners of the city at a good pace, and then sadly, it was over. Here's hoping that there will be a sequel!

A Very Satisfying Read
Author Britto need not fear a malpractice suit for his writing skills. This is a well written mystery which enlightens the reader on a number of fronts, including the pursuit and collecting of art pottery. Britto's writing skill is such that he imbeds the information in the reader's mind, creating a desire to learn more about art pottery independently. Maybe author Britto is really a transplant surgeon, not a plastic surgeon! Let's hear more from this author, and soon

Edgar quality stuff
A really excellent first novel. You can taste the food, smell the smells and see the people because the descriptions are so good. The feelings are a little hidden, but this is, after all, a mystery. The editing could have been a little tighter to smooth out some of the slightly stilted language in parts. When is the last time you got up in the middle of the night to read more because of that blue car following the protagonists little girl? This writer is a physician and I would like to know if the book is understandable for non-physicians

Tchaikovsky, a Biography
Published in Hardcover by Random House Value Publishing (November, 1998)
Author: Anthony Holden
Average review score:

Highly successful bio
A bold look at a difficult man. Tchaikovsky, terrified that his sexuality would become a topic of scandal, split his powerful sexual response between (a) male members of his family on whom he showered very intense affection and (b) young men, sometimes young boys, who were often rough-trade prostitutes. Anthony Holden offers a succinct, persuasive, well-written portrait. Although short on analysis of Tchaikovsky's music (the man was a genius at representing emotion), Holden is especially good at examining the composer's emotional relationships and the causes of his death: did he die of cholera or arsenic? by infection or suicide? If you like biographies of musicians, you'll love this one.

Biography That Reads Like a Thriller
Many kudos to Mr. Holden for this spectacular effort! This is what biography is to be! A careful reconstruction of a life, with logical extrapolation of missing points and a compelling analysis of historical inconsistencies in this unique figure. I especially appreciated the author's relative absence from the narrative (i.e., he was not telling us constantly how he felt about the facts of the biography). Gratefully, he did not editorialize about the biographies central issue: Tchaikovsky's homosexuality. The issue too often derails serious historical research, either to condemn or to convert to the cause. A sheer delight of a read.

fascinating study of a sex-crazed genius
Select virtually any adjective that comes to mind and it most likely will be applicable to this "too bizarre to be true" picture of a male homosexual nymphomaniac (my term). One of the supreme musical geniuses of Western music tormented by "irresistible" urges to copulate with 14-year old boys taken off the streets of Florence, Rome, etc., etc. His highly emotional music surely mirrors his inner torment.

Tom Watson's Strategic Golf
Published in Hardcover by Pocket Star (July, 1993)
Authors: Tom Watson, Anthony Ravielli, Donna Ruvituso, and Sally Peters
Average review score:

Short and Sweet on Strategy
If your golf mechanics are ready to use on the golf course, then it's time to think about how to lower your score. Tom Watson is one of the best strategists in the game of professional golf. Read this book to discover how he picks clubs and where to hit them in various circumstances, how he hits repeatably shaped shots (straight, high and low fades, high and low draws, skyballs and worm-burning knockdowns), and how to get the advantage in matchplay. The goal is to lower the golf score, not to hit the world's most pure drive. And this is a good thing.

Highly recommended.

Hands On Golf Book to Play Better
Step by step, this book is like a playing lesson. From the green backwards, Watson helps us realize what course maintenance is all about. This book will really help us begin to think a round out, rather than just look at the yardage, the obstacles and let it rip. Smart golf book. Higly recommended.

excellent golf strategy bible
even a beginning golfer can reap benefits from this important publication. mr. watson is in touch with how to transfer knowledge to another golfer. this volume is so important to have if you are at all serious about the game. this book serves a wide variety of players from hackers wondering where they might get back strokes to single digit players seeking a new perspective. this is one must book for a golfers library.

Tony Evans Speaks Out on Gambling and the Lottery (Tony Evans Speaks Out On.. Booklet Series)
Published in Paperback by Moody Publishers (September, 1995)
Authors: Tony Evans and Anthony T. Evans
Average review score:

Great Resource for Study Group
What a great resource for a study group on this issue. I used this book as a source for presenting Biblical guidance on gambling and the lottery. The material was very straight-forward and easy to understand. The Bible is very clear on the issue and Dr. Evans brought what the Bible has to say to us on this in a way that any layperson could understand. There should be no question as to what our Father expects from us after reading this book and following up with the Biblical references that were cited in the book.

The Truth has finally been told about the Lottery!
If you do not what to know the truth about Gambling and the Lottery then this book isn't for you! Dr. Evans has done an excellent job in presenting what the Word of God says concerning this issue and where we as beleivers are to stand also. In all of Tony Evans writtings he deals with the truth only, not personal feelings or opinions. Bless Your Spirit

Wonderful
I was amazed at the wonderful insight that Dr. Evans gives in this in depth study of the lottery and gambling. I am so thankful that somebody finally had the guts to step up to the plate and deal with this issue on a biblical base. Many times preachers refuse to deal with issues so controversial because of the reaction that they anticipate from the crowd. Thank you Dr. Evans for your biblical stance and your wonderful teaching.

Voices in the Park
Published in Paperback by Dorling Kindersley Publishing (01 August, 2001)
Author: Anthony Browne
Average review score:

I wish there was a rating above 5 this is so good!
This brilliantly illustrated story is about four different characters, a bossy woman, a poor man, a lonely boy and a young girl, all apes. Each of the moods of the characters personality is reflected in different seasons and each in a different font. With each voice described you begin to understand the story and the events that are occurring in the park that day. One voice at a time you begin to see them all fit together. The little girls story at the end ties them all together.
I believe that with the story the author is suggesting that we open our eyes and see the big picture. Appreciate what is happening around you. I may not be hitting this right but I read this book over and over and I see a deeper meaning in this story then just to describe the occurrence in the park. I believe that the author wanted to show the simplicity in children's thoughts and show that they are so peaceful and appreciate and want to know everything and everyone without any prejudice or immediate assumptions. Also within the pictures there are so many hidden meanings that you wouldn't notice first off. The pictures display the emotions of the character. An example is one picture where Charles, a boy being reprimanded by his strict mother, meets smudge, a happy go lucky girl. His side of the picture is all gloomy skies and her side is happy and colorful.
There are beautiful paintings in this book that catch the eyes of any age. The creativity of using different fonts was wonderful; it keeps kids interested in what they are reading. I love this book and I feel that every time I pick it up I will find something that I had not noticed before and I love books like that.

Sensitive, sweet, surreal book for kids & adults
A rare book that combines exceptional kid-friendly artwork with a sensitive and subtle look at class. How many children's books do that? An outstanding choice for young readers and adult aficionados. I find something new in the illustrations every time i reread it.

My students enjoyed this book very much.
Our class has discussed the book for a week, pointing out all the interesting things that are on each page. We just wanted to know a little something about the author and why he uses gorillias in his books.

A must for understanding the nature of China
I had the pleasure of seeing a preview copy of this book. It isa must read as we move toward understanding what it might mean for thefuture in making China richer and more powerful through trade.

This book puts a gentle face on a very brave people who have suffered not only the largest land grab of the 20th century through the bloody invasion by China (Tibet is the size of Europe) but have suffered a genocide by the Chinese that is the most widely ignored in history.

This is a beautiful book and worth the price. Add to your reading list "Tears Of Blood" by Mary Craig and "In Exile From the Land Of Snows" by John Avedon.

China will be one of the 3 big stories of the next century if we make it richer and more powerful. This book is as important as it is a beautiful undertaking. Congratulations to Mr. Harrison END

Compelling Stories with Masterful B&W Photography
This book is a must see and read. Stephen Harrison truly captures the personal side of Tibetans in Exile. As you read the stories behind the Tibetans portrayed in the photographs, it's as if you are in the background while Stephen Harrison interviews these most courageous Tibetan people. The portrait photography is wonderfully presented in a landscape format providing for a personal backdrop behind the emotion and suffering of each Tibetan portrayed. This is a one of a kind presentation providing a first-time moving experience each and everytime you open the book.

A "must" for all students of Tibetan history and Buddhism.
In Whispered Prayers: Portraits And Prose Of Tibetans In Exile, Stephen Harrison showcases the inner experiences of being a Tibetan refugee through a moving narration combined with exquisite photography. This wonderful exhibition is a worthy and valued contribution is further enhanced with a foreword by His Holiness, the Fourteenth Dalai Lama. Whispered Prayers will be read with deep engagement by students of Buddhism, of Tibetan history, and all who seek an enlightenment path through perilous and stressful times.

The Willing Spirit
Published in Paperback by Tor Books (April, 1998)
Authors: Piers Anthony and Alfred Tella
Average review score:

A beautiful adventure in the land of India
The Wlling Spirit is a must read novel for those in love with mythology, India, playful deities and honest but sometimes naive males:-)This first novel of Alfred Tella in collaboration with Piers Anthony was great. Full of details about Indian religions and beliefs, it opened a window to a wonderful world full of colors and smells. The idea of a wager between a horrible demon and beautiful deity is not new, but in this novel it is innovative and fun to read. If you want a fun reading, with colorful characters and places, this is the book to read.

Enjoy! I know that I already did :-)

Dee-lightful!
Very enjoyable--the authors' technique of letting us "eavesdrop" on the 2 meddlesome deities was fun. I guess deities don't have enough to do any more! Hari, the main character, often seems to be just a bit of flotsam on the waves, getting washed up in the darnedest places. But, catlike, he always lands on his feet. Or sometimes in another more interesting position! CLHaass

A novel novel
In this modern world of computers and skyscrapers it's always nice to be able to escape into the realm of fantasy. This little sojurn takes the reader to the India of the past where a young Brahmin, Hari, goes out into the world to learn of life only to become a pawn in a game of the Gods. Who shall win? Shall Hari be killed or seduced? Only the Gods know and this will keep you in suspense the whole time. There are amusing adventures that will make you laugh out loud, but hang on to your seat or you'll be lost in the action. There is no hidden plot and very little hidden meaning, but this is a great little novel just to read for the sheer pleasure of it. Happy reading!

Willy the Wimp
Published in Library Binding by Random Library (August, 1987)
Author: Anthony Browne
Average review score:

Oh, Willy
This book is classic Browne. A tale of transformation, the loser (Willy) becomes hero after a rigorous routine of hilarious self-improvement activies. Of course, he discovers (as do we all) that there are just some things about yourself you can't change.

This book has been a favourite with every child I have ever read it to since I was first introduced to it in 1985. It seems to be a big hit with the kindergarten crowd and Browne's illustrations seem to be especially appealing to boys. A must-read.

LITTLE WILLY GETS PICKED ON BY THE NEIGHBORHOOD
BULLIES AND HE WOULDN'T EVEN HURT A FLY. WILLY HATED THAT HEWAS CALLED A WIMP AND FOUND HIS OWN WAY TO BECOME PROUD OF HIMSELF!HE WORKED AT IT AND WORKED AT IT AND ONE DAY HE DIDN'T FEEL LIKE A WIMP ANYMORE! HE FELT PROUD OF HIMSELF BUT STILL STAYED THE SAME SWEET WILLY HE ALWAYS WAS. IT'S AN IMPORTANT LESSON FOR CHILDREN...FIND A SOLUTION AND WORK AT IT UNTIL YOU ARE SUCCESSFUL. AN EXCELLENT AND TIMELESS BOOK. I LOVED THE PICTURES TOO, THEY ARE SO COLORFUL BUT MORE THAN THAT THEY ARE SO EXPRESSIVE OF WILLY'S FEELINGS. BRAVO

Willy: A wimp of a chimp becomes a CHAMP!
Willy the Wimp is a hilarious yet touching story that will satisfy readers of all ages. At the heart of the story is the adorable Willy, a young chimp with a self-esteem problem. He decides to answer a "muscleman" ad in order to change his body, and in the process discovers his own inner strength. The book's illustrations are really fantastic (imagine bodybuilding gorillas). They support the text, complimenting the language and style of the story (as well as providing many laughs). This makes Willy the Wimp a perfect choice for young beginning readers as well as developing readers...and for the bedtime storyteller! A fabulous picture book that will be read again and again. You'll love it!

Winnie the Witch
Published in Paperback by Oberon Books (December, 2002)
Authors: Anthony Clark, Korky Paul, and Valerie Thomas
Average review score:

just great
I don't know whom to start with, the writer or the illustator. The book is very funny and to top it the drawings add humor to it. My 8 and a half years old boy laughed and loved it. Because we liked it so, we bought winnie can fly which is just as great.
Ran to buy it or just klick it.

You and your children will love Winnie and Wilbur
I found this book at the library. My 4 and 6 year old love it so much they asked for their own copy to have for always. Winnie's whole house is black and so is her cat Wilbur. This presents a problem when Winnie trips over Wilbur several times. She decides the solution is to magically turn him multi-colored but Wilbur is so unhappy Winnie changes him back and comes up with a much better solution. Any child will love this endearing story. Winnie the Witch is a great read anytime of the year.

Will capture kids imaginations
A wonderful brilliantly illustrated book. It's impact has been so large in the UK, that children now draw their witches with socks the same colour as Winnie's.

Not just for Halloween.

Winning Pinochle Strategies
Published in Paperback by Cut-Throat Pinochle Newsletter, Inc. (05 November, 2001)
Author: Anthony Collins
Average review score:

A Must Read for the Serious Pinochle Player
I read Anthony Collins' "Winning Pinochle Strategies" and found it to be one of the most informative books on the play of the game and the strategies needed to win consistently. If you are a novice to this great game or an advanced player that has been playing for years, you will find this book will not only help your understanding of the basics but of the more advance play necessary in mastering this game. As a two time winner of the National Pinochle Association's national tournament, I even discovered subtle hints and techniques that have aided me in my understanding of the game.

Been playing a long time, But, still learned a few things
Loved the book. Well written and easy to read. Lots of info on different situations. Keep in mind I believe he plays a game where a run counts 25 pts, which can really affect your bidding. Usual games I have been in and on the internet, usually use a 15 point count for a run. Liked the book and highly recommend it.

Pinochle Wining stategies
I have been playing pinochle for the past 40 years and can attest to the fact that the authors strategy is 99.9 percent correct. If you want to learn how to play a winning hand, or improve your game, this is a must read book for any rookie or professional.
